Kevin’s Medical School Qualifications

Open to working with clients outside the U.S.

It is a daunting task to look at what it takes to be a strong applicant for medical school and residency but there truly is power in the mindset to work smarter and not harder. I have found that time is often our most limited resource and through my undergraduate studies, medical school, and in residency I have learned many crucial techniques to maximize output and efficiency. Understanding these techniques allows you to truly focus on what is important. For me, this was becoming as strong of an applicant as possible to become an orthopedic surgeon specialized in sports injuries. I try to share the lessons I've learned with students as often as I can. I have given lectures for pre-medical courses at multiple universities and created a program with a regional orthopedic society to help place students with mentors in their desired specialty for guidance and research opportunities. I am passionate about thinking outside of the box to help create opportunities for growth and development. I have helped with admissions at both the medical school and residency level and know what makes an applicant truly stand out. I am currently living my dream as an orthopedic surgery resident at the Mayo Clinic and I 100% know I would not be here without my mentors. I hope to be an asset in your corner to help you focus on and achieve your goals.

About Kevin

I grew up in rural Idaho spending most of my free time working construction or on the basketball court. Although construction wasn’t my passion, I grew to love working with my hands to create something meaningful and lasting. While on the basketball court, I loved pushing myself, competing, and working together with a team. I knew I wanted a career that provided these same elements, and I quickly set my sights on orthopedic surgery. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the amount of time, energy, and sacrifice pursuing a career in medicine would bring—but I also didn’t fully realize the joy, purpose, and fulfillment that I have found in medicine. After attending my undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, I attended University of Washington School of Medicine. Currently, I’m an orthopedic surgery resident at the Mayo Clinic and my wife, daughters, and I are thoroughly enjoying this process. Pursuing a career in medicine is a lot of work, but if you approach it with the right mindset, tools, and support, it is a journey you’ll be grateful you took.

Why do I coach?

I frequently find that when deadlines approach, plans change, or your back is against the wall, this is when the best work happens. I cannot even begin to count the ways my undergraduate education and medical training took turns that I didn’t expect or resources/promises made didn’t come to fruition. Luckily, early on I received some incredible advice, “never view your situation as a disadvantage.” I find more often than not, the immediate reaction when things don’t fall into place is to just accept the outcome and say “it is what it is.” However, I truly believe we have the ability to create more opportunities than we give ourselves credit for. Regardless of your upbringing, strengths, or weaknesses, pursuing a career in medicine will require a trailblazer mindset. Luckily, I had mentors that helped me think outside of the box to create opportunities to strengthen myself and my medical school and residency applications. As I have continue through this process, a large passion of mine is to help those with similar goals achieve the same. I hope to be an asset for you and help you make the most of this incredible process.
